What you need to know about selecting a concealable wall-safe

• Which wall-safe? Most manufacturers and sellers do not clearly identify if a wall-safe is Flush-Mount or Extended-Mount design, leaving it up to consumers to guess based on provided product photos. To assist consumers we have identified and categorized several commonly selected wall-safes for your convenience.

Flush-Mount

• Flush-Mount type wall-safes are designed so that all components of the safe sit flush to the wall surface. The benefit of a Flush-Mount type wall-safe is that nearly any standard picture frame can lay flat against the wall, concealing the safe.

(Most flush-mount wall-safes protrude less than 0.1875″ from the wall surface.)

Extended-Mount

• Extended-Mount type wall-safes are any wall-safe that extends more than 0.1875″ from the wall. Extended-Mount designs often times have the keypad, dial, lever or safe-perimeter extending approximately 1 inch beyond the wall surface. The downfall to this design is that it requires additional clearance in the back of the picture frame in order to conceal the wall-safe’s extending components. (i.e. canvas-wrapped picture frame)

Additional Information

• Wall-Safes are designed to be mounted between 16″ on center wall-studs and are generally 3.5″ in depth. The doors are commonly left-side hinged and often times have removable shelves. Most wall-safes have electronic locks that use AA batteries and include a manual key option in the event the battery fails. Since wall-safes are designed to be compact they usually have no fire insulation and are not typically fire-rated.
